People who can write over 5,000 words daily inspire me. However, inspiration is not enough to transform me into a successful, full-time writer.
How can I reach to that level?
How can I write so many words daily?
It was time to strap myself to my writing desk and create a plan: write 3,000 words a week. Not bad, right? The starting line begins on Sundays and ends on the following Saturdays.
Now, I must figure out a daily goal to reach my weekly goal. I’ve tried writing 1,000 words daily, the 500/500 method, and the quarter method.
The 1,000 Word Method
The daily 1,000-word method did not turn out well at first. I’m used to writing 300 to 500-word articles three times a week.
Strangely enough, I can go on forever writing a script. Pretty sure that’s over 1,000 words.
When it comes to online articles for others to read, I hesitate. Writing articles for the public felt like walking on a tightrope. It’s a new area of writing I’m not used to.
It’ll get better once it becomes a permanent habit.
The 500/500 Method
Another writing method I tried was the 500/500. I write a 500-word article in the morning and another 500 in the evening. It works well, except during the days I must attend to my part-time job. I’d be too tired to start on my evening 500 after work.

A little writing at work won’t hurt. It won’t be a perfect 500, but it’s better than nothing.
Fortunately, my employer offers an opportunity for anyone to write brief articles for the company’s blog. It has given me an extra lift to my writing goals.
The Quarter Method (250/250/250/250)
In my planner, I have broken down my daily goal of 1,000 words into 250-word bits. These articles ranged from anything I desired from alternative health to video game tips.
Most of the time, I wrote over the planned 250-word minimum. One time, I wrote a book review expecting it to be 300 words and it turned out to be a decent 500.
Writing four short articles worked out the best for me. By the end of the day, I reached my daily goal.
Big goals are better broken down into smaller ones.
All the word count methods worked for me; some more challenging than others. Some weeks, I don’t reach my 3,000-word goal, and that’s okay. It’s not the end of the world, it’s progress.
No matter what, I did what was best for me: I kept writing.
